Mac Leather is a family-run leather bags manufacturer in Karachi, Pakistan. We’ve cut leather in our own factory since 1998, and three generations of us work there now. Garments are what we’re best known for, but we also make bags for UK and EU brands and boutiques: totes, crossbodies, shoulder bags, backpacks, holdalls. Most of them can be made in suede too.
The minimum is 20 pieces per order and you can mix styles inside it, so a first bag range doesn’t mean hundreds of each design. Every style is sampled before bulk. Qualifying leather goods enter the UK at 0% duty under the DCTS.

Leather bags we manufacture
We don’t sell from a catalogue. We work from your tech pack, a sketch or a bag you send us, and any of the styles below can change in size, leather, lining or hardware.
Tote bags
Open or zip-top, structured or soft, one handle or two. Totes are often the first bag a brand adds, because the construction is simple and the leather does the work. The brown suede tote in our portfolio is a soft, unstructured shape that still keeps its form, mostly down to the lining and reinforcement behind it.
Crossbody bags
Small bags on an adjustable or detachable strap, from boxy camera shapes to soft pouches. For their size they carry a lot of hardware (rings, swivel clips, buckles, a zip), so we sample the hardware on the actual bag rather than approving it off a card.
Shoulder bags
Baguette and hobo shapes, plus structured flap bags with a shorter drop. These tend to be the most fashion-led pieces in a range. They’re also where a messy edge or a lumpy turned seam shows first.
Backpacks
Everyday and work backpacks (rucksacks), padded or not, with laptop sleeves and inside pockets if you want them. There’s one in our portfolio. A backpack puts more strain on straps and stitching than any other bag we make, so that’s where we test hardest.
Holdalls and duffel bags
Weekend holdalls (duffels, in the US) in cowhide or suede, with top zips, end pockets, a detachable shoulder strap and base feet. A big bag eats leather. This is where choosing full-grain or corrected cowhide makes the most difference to your price, and we’ll help you pick.
Suede bags
Totes, shoulder bags and crossbodies in goat or sheep suede. Suede is softer and more seasonal than smooth leather, and without the right lining and edge construction it slumps. We’ll tell you where it works and where a smooth leather will wear better.
Small leather goods and gloves
Belts, wallets, card holders and fashion gloves can go in the same order as your bags and count towards the same 20 pieces.
Leathers and linings for bags
Leather is most of the cost of a bag, and it decides how the bag looks and ages. We use four, with cowhide in two grades.
- Full-grain cowhide keeps its natural grain, stays firm and develops a patina. It’s what we’d use for a structured tote or a holdall. It costs more, and natural marks show.
- Corrected-grain cowhide has an even surface and consistent colour, so it suits bigger bags on a tighter budget. It won’t age the same way.
- Sheepskin is soft and light, good for slouchy shoulder bags and small leather goods. It scuffs more easily than cowhide.
- Goatskin has a tight pebbled grain and is strong for its weight, which suits crossbodies and wallets. The hides are small, so there’s a limit on how big a single panel can be.
- Suede, goat or sheep, has the soft matte nap people want for seasonal totes. It marks easily, and the shade varies from hide to hide more than smooth leather, so we sort skins before cutting a bulk run.
Linings are cotton twill or canvas to keep weight and cost down, or suede for smaller, dearer pieces. Microfibre is available if you ask.
Hardware and branding
We do branding in the factory and source hardware to your finish and size. What we can do:
- Emboss or deboss your logo, blind or with colour
- Foil stamp it in gold, silver or another foil colour
- Fit a metal logo plate with screws, posts or prongs
- Source hardware in your finish, from zips down to bag feet
- Stitch woven or leather labels inside
- Supply branded dust bags and packaging

MOQ 20 pieces, mixable across styles
Twenty pieces per order, spread across as many styles as you like. Eight totes, six crossbodies and six backpacks is one order.
A lot of bag factories, particularly the bigger ones in China, count their minimum per style, often 50 to 100 of each. Testing three styles that way means buying hundreds of bags before you’ve sold one. With a mixed minimum you can try the same three with 20 bags between them, find out which one your customers actually buy, and reorder that one in bigger numbers once you know.

Sampling process and timelines
Every bag is sampled before bulk. The sample is where the pattern and materials get agreed, branding included, and bulk is made to match it.
- You send a tech pack, sketch or reference bag with the leather and rough quantity you’re after.
- We quote within 48 hours, with suggested materials and any construction notes.
- We cut the pattern and make the first sample, usually in about 2 weeks for a simple bag and up to 8 for a complicated one.
- You send comments on size, shape, hardware or finish, and we resample if needed.
- Once you approve it, bulk usually takes 30 to 45 days.
- We inspect and pack, and prepare the export documents.

Quality control for leather bags
Bags fail in the same places every time: handles, strap anchors, zips, edges. So that’s where we look, during production and not only at the end.
- Load-bearing seams are checked against the sample for stitches per inch, and for skipped or loose stitches.
- Raw edges are painted, and we check the coverage and the colour match. We never burnish before painting. It closes the fibres and the paint won’t grip.
- Handles, strap anchors and D-rings are pulled under load.
- Every zip is run end to end, every clasp and magnetic closure is worked open and shut, and we look over the plating for scratches picked up on the line.
- Linings are checked for fit and puckering.
- Finished bags go side by side with the approved sample before packing.
If you’d rather have an independent check, SGS, Bureau Veritas, QIMA or your own inspector are all welcome. REACH and AZO lab tests can be arranged on request.
Private label and custom design
There are three ways to get your own range made here, and you can mix them in one order.
- Private label: a bag developed with us, carrying your logo, labels, hardware finish and packaging.
- Custom design: we build it from your tech pack, sketch or sample, and our pattern team makes it ready for production.
- OEM: you give us a finished spec and we make it to that spec.

Duty-free into the UK, reduced duty into the EU
Qualifying leather goods from Pakistan enter the UK at 0% duty under the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). Pakistan also has GSP+ status with the EU, which gives preferential rates on qualifying goods.
What you pay depends on the commodity code of each bag, so check the codes with your customs broker before the first shipment. We supply the commercial invoice, the packing list and the origin paperwork your broker needs to claim the preference.
Who we make leather bags for
UK and EU brands and boutiques. Some are new labels placing a first order of 20 pieces. Others are established brands adding bags to a leather range they already sell. The factory makes about 25,000 pieces a year across garments and bags, and you deal directly with the people making your bags.

Common questions about leather bag manufacturing
What is the minimum order for leather bags?
20 pieces per order, mixed across styles. Belts and wallets can go in the same 20.
How much does it cost to manufacture a leather bag in Pakistan?
It depends mostly on the leather, the size, the amount of hardware and how many you order. A small suede crossbody and a full-grain cowhide holdall are nowhere near each other on price. Send the design and a target quantity and we’ll quote within 48 hours, showing how the price changes as the quantity goes up.
How long do samples and bulk production take?
Samples take about 2 weeks for simple styles and up to 8 weeks for complicated ones. Bulk is usually 30 to 45 days after you approve the sample, though special hardware or a complicated design can add time.
Can you make a bag from a sketch or a photo?
Yes. Our pattern team works it up with you into a sample, and you approve that before bulk.
Which leather should I choose for my bags?
Full-grain cowhide if the bag is structured and you want it to last and age well. Corrected cowhide for an even finish at a lower price. Sheepskin suits soft, slouchy shapes, goatskin is good when you need strength without weight, and suede is for seasonal pieces. We’ll suggest one for each style in the quote.
Do you check quality before shipping?
Yes. Stitching and edges, handles and straps, hardware and linings all get checked, and every finished bag is compared with the approved sample before it’s packed. Third-party inspection is welcome too.
Is there import duty on leather bags from Pakistan to the UK?
Not on qualifying leather goods, which enter the UK at 0% under the DCTS. The EU gives preferential access under GSP+. Rates depend on the commodity code, so check with your customs broker. We provide the export and origin documents.
Do you offer private label and custom branding?
Yes: embossing, debossing, foil, metal plates, labels, hardware in your finish and branded dust bags. All of it is sampled with the bag first.
