These are the questions brands and shops ask us most before they order leather garments, jackets or bags. Getting started
How do I place my first order with Mac Leather?
Send us your requirements: the styles and materials, rough quantities, any custom details. We’ll quote within 48 hours. For a first order we suggest starting with a sample so you can check the quality and fit before committing to bulk. There’s no minimum on samples.
What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
20 pieces per order, mixable across styles and colours. You can mix product types too, say 10 jackets and 10 trousers, or a few each of several bag styles. The unit price drops at higher quantities per style, at 100, then 250, then 500+. Samples have no minimum. More on our low MOQ leather manufacturing.
Do I need a tech pack to get started?
No, though it helps. With a tech pack (measurements, materials, construction notes) we quote and sample straight from it. With only sketches, photos or a garment you like, our pattern makers write the spec for you. We also have base patterns for common shapes that you can adapt, which saves time and money on sampling.
How do I request samples?
Email info@macleatherco.com, use our contact page, or message us on WhatsApp. A simple sample takes about 2 weeks and a complicated one up to 8. Either way it’s made to your spec, down to the lining and the hardware. You can order as many samples as you like. They’re charged separately, and the cost comes off your first bulk order. Most brands approve after one or two rounds.
Do you work with startups and new brands?
Yes, a lot of them. The 20-piece mixed minimum exists so that brands not yet ordering thousands can still work with a factory. If you’ve never done this before, we’ll walk you through it, from the tech pack and leather options to sizing, labels, shipping.
Materials and products
Do you only manufacture jackets, or do you make other products?
We make more than jackets. Jackets are what we’re best known for, but the same factory works as a leather garment manufacturer (overshirts, shackets, gilets, skirts, trousers, dresses) and a leather bags manufacturer (totes, crossbodies, backpacks, duffels, laptop bags), including private label leather bags. We also make belts and wallets, and gloves. Any mix of garments, jackets or bags counts towards the same 20-piece minimum.
What types of leather do you work with?
Mostly sheepskin. It’s soft and light and the most popular leather for fashion garments, and our finer sheepskin grades are there for higher-end lines. We also use cowhide (full-grain, top-grain or corrected-grain), goatskin and shearling, which is sheepskin with the wool left on. Suede and nubuck are available in several hide types. Our hides come from tanneries in Karachi’s Korangi cluster, where about 250 tanning units operate, and we arrange REACH and AZO lab tests on request.
Do you work with vegan or synthetic leather?
Yes, PU (polyurethane), though genuine leather is what we know best. PU jackets start at $15 to $35 FOB depending on quality and design. Contact us with what you need.
Can I send my own designs for production?
Yes, and most of our orders start that way. Send tech packs, sketches, photos or a sample garment you want copied or changed. Our pattern makers handle the technical side, grading and seams included. You approve a sample first, and bulk only starts after you sign it off.
What jacket styles do you specialise in?
All the main ones: biker jackets, bomber jackets, racers, blazers, trench coats, shearling and aviator jackets, hooded jackets, vests. Men’s and women’s. What we’re known for is the complicated stuff, like quilted panels, asymmetric cuts, lots of pockets and heavy hardware. If another factory turned your design down as too complicated, talk to us. Production and quality
How long does production take?
Samples take about 2 weeks for a simple garment and up to 8 weeks for a complicated one. Bulk typically takes 30 to 45 days after sample approval. Big orders, complicated designs and hard-to-get leathers take longer. You get a production schedule with every order and updates as it moves through the floor, up to final inspection. If you have a launch date, tell us early.
What does your quality control process look like?
Several checks. Leather is inspected at the tannery before we accept it. On the floor we check after cutting (panels, colour match), after sewing (seam strength, alignment) and after finishing (hardware, lining, symmetry, size tolerance). Then every piece is inspected before packing. We work to AQL 2.5 by default, or stricter if your brand needs it.
What certifications and compliance checks do you offer?
Third-party inspections by SGS, Bureau Veritas, QIMA or your own inspector, and REACH and AZO lab tests on request. We only claim what we can show you on paper. We ask our tanneries for AZO-free dyes. We pay fair wages, keep the factory safe and don’t employ children. Clients can audit the factory, and we’ll send compliance documents for any order. Is leather sustainable?
Ours is about as sustainable as leather gets: it’s all a by-product of the meat industry. No animal is raised or killed for its hide, and the hides would otherwise be thrown away. Our tanneries also take part in effluent treatment programmes, and we use AZO-free dyes.
Can I arrange third-party quality inspections?
Yes, at any stage: before production, during it, or before shipping. Use SGS, Bureau Veritas, QIMA, any other agency, or your own inspector. We still do our own checks, but on a first order an independent one makes sense.
What happens if there is a quality issue with my order?
Email info@macleatherco.com with photos and a description. We’ll look into it quickly and offer a fix: replacing the affected pieces, reworking them, or a credit on your next order. With checks at every stage it doesn’t happen often, but when it does we deal with it openly.
Shipping and payment
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, anywhere. Samples and small shipments go by air with DHL, FedEx or UPS in 3 to 7 business days. Bulk goes by sea on FOB Karachi or CIF terms: 20 to 30 days to European ports, 25 to 35 days to North America. We’ll suggest the cheapest way that still meets your date.
What are your payment terms?
50% deposit when you confirm, 50% before shipment. Regular customers can get 30-day credit on approved accounts. We take T/T (bank transfer) or Letter of Credit (L/C), and PayPal for samples. Bank details come on every proforma invoice.
Is there import duty on leather goods from Pakistan into the UK?
No, on qualifying goods it’s 0% under the UK DCTS (Developing Countries Trading Scheme), the scheme the UK set up after Brexit. Leather garments from China or India pay 4% MFN. On 500 jackets at $75 CIF that’s about $1,500 saved per shipment. We provide the proof of origin you need to claim it, and your customs broker should confirm the commodity code for each product. Is there import duty on leather goods from Pakistan into the EU?
No. Pakistan-made leather garments enter the EU at 0% under GSP+ (Generalised Scheme of Preferences Plus), which Pakistan has held since January 2014. The same goods from China or India pay 4% MFN. We do the origin paperwork for GSP+ as part of the export documents. Confirm commodity codes with your customs broker.
Private label and branding
Do you offer private label and OEM services?
Yes, and most of what we make is private label. It goes out under your brand and your customers never see our name. Our private label services cover woven or printed main labels, care labels and hangtags, branded zips and hardware (these have their own minimums), embossed or debossed leather patches, and packaging from dust bags to branded cartons. That goes for garments and bags as well as jackets. If you have an idea but no spec, we’ll write the tech pack.
Can you help with design development?
Yes. If you have a full tech pack, we work from it. If you have a mood board, photos or a competitor’s garment you want to beat, our pattern makers draw up the spec. We also keep base patterns for bombers and bikers, blazers and trenches, that you can change, which is the cheapest route.
